Ideas For Landscaping Around Your Hot Tub
The Landscaping in any part of your yard will reflect both the time and effort you put into it. Landscaping around your hot tub is no different. Sure, you could just put a layer of mulch around it to keep things clean, but it will be painfully obvious just how little time and effort you put into it.
Designing your landscaping around your hot tub doesn’t differ much from any landscape planning and is very similar to what you would do around a deck maybe because they are both raised. It doesn’t have to be elaborate though; in fact it can be quite simple and still look very nice.
1 The green approach
You could add a few shrubs and flowers in pots or planters that you like to add color to the surrounding. Vary the size of the containers like having a large pot on each side of the hot tub steps with a small tree in each one will give your hot tub a welcoming look. Planters and pots filled with flowers and greenery creates a great look.
2 Preference for privacy
Sometimes you might prefer ideas for privacy for your hot tub landscaping. A screened in gazebo is a great idea for landscaping for privacy. This will accomplish two things, make it the focal point of your backyard and make it possible to use even if it’s buggy or raining outside. To spice up the outside of the gazebo use a couple basic window planter boxes and plant them with some of your favorite flowers. If you’re not into gardening use some tasteful craft work or a couple of pieces of sculpture.
3 Getting that Asian look
Building a pergola over your hot tub creates a pattern of shade and sun that gives an Asian-inspired look. It gives the tub a sense of enclosure as well as making it a focal point. The structure is also something you could have vines grow up on in order to give some privacy. All these things add to that Asian feel.
4 That built in look
Planting beautiful plants and trees in ground or in planters around your hot tub gives a sense of permanency and makes it look as if your hot tub is built-in. You just have to make sure the plants you choose are weather hardy for your local climate or you have a place for them to go in the winter.
5 The ultimate
An in ground hot tub next to an in ground swimming pool is the ultimate hot tub to have. To compliment the beauty of your in ground hot tub and pool would be to have a little tropical jungle. I was down in Ecuador a few months ago and they had a gorgeous pool in their back yard with all kinds of tropical plants around it. We can do it here in Canada as well by using some attractive flowerpots and placing them in clusters of 3 around the hot tub. By using a different sized pot for each pot in the cluster you will be creating a terraced look which really looks attractive. The flowers to use are hibiscus, maybe a small palm bush that won’t grow too large along with some ivy to flow over the pots which will create a wonderful tropical look. You may have to take some of these plants in for the winter though.
There are many ideas, so I can’t list or even think of them all but whatever your ideas for landscaping around your hot tub are remember to be imaginative. Make it a place that really fits your yard and your house and make it a haven that draws you in and make you want to spend time there.
