A Guide to Outdoor Gas Fireplaces
Imagine that you are sitting in your backyard sipping hot tea and looking at the stars with the sound of crickets chirping and frogs croaking nature’s symphony on a cool, breezy night. Maybe there is even the scent of jasmine is in the air. It’s the perfect night well almost. (I’m dreaming cause right now my back yard is -25 degrees C but spring is coming.) Now back to my dream. The problem is even on this perfect night it is a tad cool, (this could be true any month of the year but especially in the spring and fall months) the air can be a bit too nippy. If only there was a way to heat your outdoor space the way you do your home. Thanks to outdoor gas fireplaces and heaters, you can.
Outdoor gas fireplaces and heaters can range from a rustic simplicity to an extravagant elegance. They can be free-standing or built-in structures. A built-in fireplace can be the centerpiece of an elaborate outdoor living area. These fireplaces are often designed by landscape architects or designers. Some are built by pool and spa professionals. Made of bricks and mortar, they can feature any design elements you might desire. They can be a part of an outdoor kitchen or near the pool. Many people are using outdoor gas fireplaces to make their pools and hot tubs more useful year-round. In cool months, they can sit on the deck and enjoy hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows by the fire. Others create an elaborate backyard oasis, complete with palm trees and veranda all with the fireplace an integral part of the design.
Outdoor gas fireplaces are very easy to operate with a push button igniter and gas flow controls. Fireplaces are available in a wide variety of styles, including traditional masonry and more contemporary looks and most are also equipped with a real or faux wood mantle. For an authentic log fire ambience, you can choose an outdoor gas fireplace which features long-lasting, weather resistant ceramic logs, with dramatic dancing flames. They have been compared to bringing your indoor fireplace outside with you. Some have also described outdoor gas fireplaces as instant campfires.
On the other hand there are the smaller, less expensive portable models of fireplaces and heaters. Some manufacturers, for example, offer these portable outdoor gas fireplaces so they can be easily transported on camping trips, to tailgate parties, or simply to your backyard deck. These heaters don’t require electricity, so they can be brought to heat even in remote locations.
Most are made with a propane installation and can hook directly to a propane tank or grill. Propane fireplaces are very safe. They can also be made to hook up to a natural gas line.
Chimineas are another form of outdoor fireplaces. While these are not technically gas fireplaces, some can use natural gas inserts.
These fireplaces and heaters are often sold in stores that specialize in gas appliances but even some department store offer a selection of low-cost outdoor fireplaces. These are mostly the small, portable models. You might also want to check your local retail, and garden supplies stores.
An internet search for “outdoor gas fireplaces” will uncover even more resources. Check them out now so you can be ready for spring.

I place the Seabreeze SF12ST Off the Wall ThermaFlo in all three of my bedrooms and they?ve worked wonders. It works so quick in heating up a small area. I just close the bedroom doors and it stays nice and toasty. I would urge it to anyone who needs to heat up a small area. The only thing I was concerned about was that it?s 1500 watts. That?s like having 15 lights on in your house at one time, not counting all the other lights and appliances you?re using. I was very worried how high my electric bill would rise, but so far my bill has only increased $50.
January 14th, 2010 at 2:29 pm

Check this out. i replace a 15 year ancient unit. the replacement was exact in every way except the nametplate which read Nataulus rather than Broan. it is obviously the same fine unit?should last another 15 years.
