Flower Garden Design Ideas: How To Create An Amazing Garden!
There is nothing in my opinion more relaxing than strolling along a path lined with cheerful colors of flowers or sitting reading a book in the midst of a garden of fragrant flowers. It helps you to wind down after a busy, stressful day, it certainly helps me. With some planning and some work, a lovely flower garden can be yours to enjoy. That way you could have your very own peaceful and beautiful refuge from the rest of the world.
Planning Your Flower Garden Design

Creating your own beautiful flower garden design will take some planning. You will want to consider the types of flowers and or combination of flowers and colors you desire for the garden. You will also want to think through where to place them in your yard and what kind of borders and shrubs as well as
Seating, ornaments and structures you may want to use.
It is a good idea to choose an overall style for the garden and stick with it. When you begin planning your flower garden project, I find it helpful to make a scale drawing of the design to help me visualize my ideas.
Shape you want your Flower Garden Design
You could have a traditional formal design like a rectangular or circular flower garden they are always popular. I think a circular shaped garden has more interest to it then the standard rectangular one.
There are also the informal, almost eclectic, gardens with rounded corners and irregular shapes. The English garden is a great example of this.
Another idea: a flower garden planted on a diagonal to the house can make it appear larger than it actually is.
Some different Styles of Flower Garden Designs
There are a number of styles of gardens you can plant, and many of them are not too difficult to achieve. Some of the favorite flower garden designs are listed below.

- Rose Garden Designs
Rose Gardens are easy to plant and beautiful to see. Don’t forget, in addition to modern roses, there are some old-fashioned varieties of roses whose scent will delight and they can be much more fragrant.
If you plant bulbs in the beds in between the roses and along the borders plant annual flowers it will keep the garden full of color during the entire blooming seasons.
- Cottage Garden Designs
Informal cottage gardens have an old-fashioned, rustic look about them. Often they have quite a variety of colors and textures. These flower garden designs can incorporate the use of flowers, plants and vegetables.
- Shade Garden Designs
The shade garden design is good for garden spaces with a lot of trees or a big tree blocking the sunlight. There are a lot of flowers that do well in shady areas, including impatiens, begonia, azalea, hosta and viola. The lack of leaves on the trees in spring allows spring bulbs to grow, filling the space with color.

- Wildflower Garden Designs
Wildflower gardens feature plants indigenous to the area where the garden is located. These gardens tend to require less pampering than some of the other types listed here, usually not requiring much weeding or amendments to the soil. They at the same time might need more effort to control as they can be fairly invasive.
- Butterfly Garden Designs
Butterfly gardens are delightful flower gardens, planted with flowers known to attract butterflies. Plants such as marigold, lilac, coreopsis, lavender, black-eyed susan and goldenrod are all good choices for butterfly gardens.
-Hummingbird Garden Designs
Likewise, hummingbird gardens are a good choice for those who enjoy spotting these small birds. Hummingbirds like richly colored flowers with sweet nectar and a tubular shaped bloom. Flowers with Red or fuchsia colored blooms in particular tend to attract hummingbirds. Some hummingbird garden favorites are morning glory, petunias, azalea, rose of sharon, delphinium and honeysuckle.
The list could and probably should go on, like Water gardens, Japanese gardens and Rock gardens etc. We will need to talk more about these in the future.
I trust this has given you some ideas and will help you plan your very own peaceful and beautiful refuge from the rest of the world. Planning it now will help you get it ready to enjoy this summer.

Gardens are outlets for anyone who wants peace. Spending time tending to flowers and plants can really be relaxing. Thanks so much for the very helpful guide on “Flower Garden Design Ideas” it gave me several ideas for how to design my planned garden. I am so excited to have the wild flower garden, but mine is going to have a twist. I’ll be adding a raised bed I found at http://simplypatiofurniture.com/patio-accessories-gardening.html so that I can have more space to work and more places to plant my flowers. I’m taking advantage of the huge backyard we have at our new home. With the ideas you shared I can foresee the beautiful refuge I will have when I’m done with this project.
